Canada ranks 4th in global oil production and 5th in natural gas (2017). It also holds the 3rd largest oil reserves in the world and potential natural gas of 1,373 trillion cubic feet (2021).
Alberta produced 2.84 million bpd from oilsands 2021) and 437,000 bpd of conventional crude (2019). B.C. natural gas production was 5.75 billion cubic feet per day (2021) primarily from Horn river and Montney shale formations. Saskatchewan produced 444,200 bpd (2021) primarily from the Bakken Shale Formation.
Manitoba produced 37,000 bpd (2021) from the Williston Basin. Ontario had 2,327 productive O&G wells (2018). Quebec has an estimated 100-year supply of natural gas in the Utica Shale Formation. Newfoundland produced 258,000 bpd of offshore crude (2021). Natural gas production in the Northern Territories was 6 million cf per day (2021).
